The GulfQuest Maritime Museum is scheduled to close only 13 months after it opened in September of 2015.
According to census.gov, the City of Mobile has an estimated population of 194,288 as of July 1, 2015. Going by City minutes, the City of Mobile has contributed approximately $34,386,906 to the GulfQuest Maritime Museum project.
Completely ignoring any interest that will have to be repaid with these monies, that amounts to $177 for every man woman and child in the City limits!
In fact, it may be even worse than that:
City manager Colby Cooper issued a ledger for the project to AL.com showing that it cost $43 million.
If all of the $43M was City money, that brings the per-citizen cost up to $221.
